Ric Madru is a graduate of Westfield State College with a B.A. in Music Education and a Minor on trombone. He received a Master of Supervision and Administration Degree from Suffolk University. He studied conducting at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Madru was a brass specialist and band director for the Salem Public Schools from 1976 to 1980, where he helped create and direct the All Town Junior Band and Jazz Band programs. He then served as Band Director and Director of Music for the Manchester Public Schools before coming to Duxbury in 1983, where he served as Music Department Head and Band Director to the present. Mr. Madru was the Music Director and Conductor of the Middlesex Concert Band from 1979 to 1985. Under his direction the band performed ten concerts at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade in Boston. The Middlesex Concert Band also performed in many concert halls throughout the North Shore and Boston area. With the help of a local businessman, Mr. Madru created and directed a new community band on the South Shore. Since 1993 the South Shore Bay Band has grown to sixty-five members and performed seven concerts in five south shore communities in their 1996 season.
Mr. Madru conducted the Senior S.E.M.S.B.A. Band, and served as the Senior District Jazz Manager. He conducted the Duxbury High School musical production of “Anything Goes”, “The King and I”, and “Fiddler on the Roof”. He also served as guest lecturer at the league of Middle Schools Workshops in 1990 and again in 1991 on the topic of scheduling and participation in music at the Middle School level. In 1997 the Duxbury High School Wind Ensemble performed at the Massachusetts All-State Convention Concert Hour under his direction. In 1998 the Wind Ensemble received a gold medal, as well as a perfect score from the Massachusetts Instrumental Conductors Association. In 1999, Mr. Madru received the “Educator of the Year” award from the South Shore Conservatory.
